The young children live in the quarry and crusher area do not have any facilities. The mother have to go for quarry or crusher work regularly. In this background she has to leave the children at the thatched huts in a pollution and dirty environment. The elder children were forced to look after the young ones. In this process the elder children are prevent for schooling and education process. The younger children were in a polluted situation. Totally children were in unsafe situation in all quarries and crushers. The government and local Panchayats is unwilling to provide education support for children in the quarry and crushers because of migrant character. To protect and prepare children for regular schooling ACDS was promoted Childhood Care Centers in quarry and crusher areas. Every center serves more than 25 children from both sexes. Children from 2 ½ years to 5 years were enrolled in the center.
In the beginning the parents and mothers provided less care for the center. Through our regular and repeated meetings they understood about the need of childhood care center and essentials of education. Now they extend their cooperation and support to sustain the center. Because of this center existence elder children were attending schools. The eligible children were enrolled regular school from respective childhood care center. Because of continuous effort two child care centers one from Melakottaiyur and another from Muttukadu were handed over to Government through ICDS. The Ankanwadi Teachers were provided periodical inputs on handling of children, syllabus preparation, extra curricular activities and play way methods. Now the children were in safe environment and parents were happy. With support and coordination of Health Sub-Center immunizations and regular weighing organized at appropriate hours. Now 3 childhood care centers are functioning at Erumaiyur, Keerapakkam and Unamancheri. The now crusher owners and parents come forward to extend their support and coordination to sustain the center.
